BACKGROUND
Since the time of being a small child old enough to hold a
crayon, I've loved drawing and painting. Countless Sunday
mornings were spent drawing on empty spaces in the church
bulletins to help pass the time away. I hold a
Commercial Art Degree from the University of Akron with an
Emphasis in Illustration and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from
Augsburg College. I currently work on my own creations and
commissions in my studio.
Hana mele
Before opening my studio and gallery in 2002, I spoke
with a dear friend who suggested calling it Hana Mele.
"Hana mele" literally translated means "work song" in Hawaiian.
This name fits perfectly with my painting style and my sense of
being while painting, my "dance".
artwork
I
enjoy creating art on a daily basis. How fun life can be
when living Art-fully! Using a variety of media including
watercolor, acrylic, sumi ink, graphite, charcoal, wire, wood,
found objects and more, I paint, form and build two and three
dimensional artwork,
creating a balance between the planned and the intuitive, and
the objective and subjective.
My artwork is described in a variety of ways as colorful,
joyful, light-hearted, touching, whimsical, beautiful and
humorous! I love using
sweeping brushstrokes of color to
add to the movement
of energy within my paintings.
My work is sold at Art Works in Iron Mountain, MI, Steam'n Joe's in
Florence, WI and through this website. Visit my blog by
